Daniella Ponticelli joined CTV News Winnipeg in March 2014 as a contract video journalist. She is now a full-time web VJ at the station; a dynamic role that puts her on both sides of the camera and in front of digital content. While she continues to shoot, report and edit full stories; the focus is more on broadcast features and daily web-based packages. Additionally, Daniella backfills for a number of roles in the newsroom including morning live traffic reporter, weekday assignment editor and weekend producer.

While initially working part-time work at CTV, Daniella took on the role of content coordinator for Neighbours of Bridgwater; a community magazine circulated to homes in Waverley West. The publication launched April 2015, and was a natural fit for Daniella who has an extensive background in print journalism.

In September 2013, she joined the Winnipeg Sun team as a multimedia reporter focused on writing compelling local news stories and producing online video. The job meant a move for Daniella, who spent a year and a half in Saskatchewan honing her broadcast skills as the anchor and producer of go!Sasktoon on Shaw TV. She took on multiple roles within the small newsroom as a video journalist, editor, and team leader. The highlight of her work at Shaw: producing Saskatoon's first live telethon in more than 15 years to raise money for the SPCA.

The inaugural Cause for Paws telethon was broadcast live for six hours, raised $10,000 and saw eight animals adopted into new loving homes. Daniella managed the entire project over the span of six months; an accomplishment she credits to her time as a Creative Communications student. In 2012, she completed her diploma from Red River College and Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Winnipeg. Majoring in journalism, Daniella freelanced her spare time away, and took on various embedding opportunities with The Canadian Forces – taking her to the Northwest Territories. She continued writing military stories as the resident CFB Shilo reporter/photographer for The Brandon Sun before packing up and heading to Saskatoon.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Daniella loves to travel and learn about new cultures. She visits The Cape when she can, but often drives across the prairies to visit friends and family. A dancer for more than 18 years, Daniella decided to try out aerial acrobatics at Winnipeg-based Monica’s Danz Gym, where she fell in love with the contemporary circus style in 2007.  She’s performed silk, sling, hoop, trapeze, harness and stilt acts as a member of Winnipeg’s Momentum Aerial and Acrobatic Troupe; and represented Team Canada at the World Gymnaestrada in Austria (2007) and Switzerland (2011).

Daniella continues to perform aerial silks with Take Flight Aerial and Acrobatic Troupe. She writes creative non-fiction, fiction, snappy poetry and other fun nonsense; for which she's done public readings and won a 2011 Creative Communications Media Award. Daniella loves graphic novels and was thrilled to meet her comic hero Stan Lee in 2013.
